Assessment strategy, assurance and product advice

Evidence you can trust.

Independent advice for organisations that build, deliver or regulate assessment: edtech and assessment companies, publishers and credentialing bodies, training providers, universities, and school systems.

What we do

Most of our work starts with one of three situations.

01 · ASSURE

Something needs an independent review before you commit.

An assessment product, program, system or set of claims examined before a board decision, an audit, a launch or a purchase. We work through the evidence and tell you what holds and what doesn't.

Assessment Assurance Review
02 · BUILD

Something needs to be designed, or rebuilt properly.

Assessment architecture, item and task design, adaptive and digital delivery, reporting, validity planning, and redesigning assessment so it still works now that generative AI is everywhere.

Assessment Redesign
03 · EMBED

You need assessment leadership in the team for a while.

Experienced judgment inside product, quality, strategy and commercial decisions, without creating a permanent executive role.

Ways to engage

How we work with you.

Every engagement is scoped in writing around the decision you're facing. You'll know the price before you commit, and you keep everything we produce.

Half day

Leadership Briefing

A working session with your leadership team on a specific assessment, integrity or product question. Useful when you need a clear view before committing to a bigger piece of work.

Half day, fixed fee
Independent review

Assessment Assurance Review

A fixed-scope review of an assessment product, program or system. We examine the evidence, identify the material risks and give you a prioritised set of actions in writing.

Fixed scope and fee, typically two weeks
Project

Assessment Redesign

For organisations building or significantly changing their assessment. Depending on the scope, this can cover architecture, validity, item systems, digital delivery, reporting, AI integrity and implementation.

Annual

Validation Partner

For RTOs and training providers. We plan and run your validation cycle, review assessment tools and keep the evidence in order under the current Standards, so an audit is a scheduled event rather than a crisis. We've delivered accredited training ourselves, so we know what a trainer, an assessor and an auditor each need to see.

Annual, scoped to your registration
Ongoing

Embedded Head of Assessment

Experienced assessment leadership inside your team, on retainer, for product roadmaps, quality assurance, vendor decisions, technical questions, reporting and validation.

From two days a month
When people get in touch

These are the situations we hear about most.

You're building or buying an assessment product and nobody senior owns the assessment thinking.
The product is growing faster than the measurement work behind it.
An audit, board paper or regulatory review is coming and the evidence has to hold.
Your academic integrity approach was written before generative AI, and everyone knows it.
A platform or vendor decision is on the table and every demo looks the same.
You collect assessment data every term and it isn't changing anything.
A tender or an expansion needs real assessment substance behind it.
You need assessment leadership, but not another full-time executive.

About the practice

Advice from every side of the assessment table.

Assessment problems rarely sit in one discipline. A technically sound assessment can fail in implementation, a good product can make claims its evidence doesn't support, and a sophisticated report can still leave a decision-maker unsure what to do next. The practice exists to connect those things.

Client work is confidential. Names, logos and case studies are only used with permission.

Our position

Four things we believe.

Validity comes first.

An assessment earns trust when the evidence supports the decisions made from it. Format, automation and reporting should serve that purpose.

Integrity is a design problem.

The answer to generative AI isn't an endless detection contest. It's designing assessment so the evidence of what a person can do is more observable and more defensible.

Data should lead to decisions.

If assessment data never changes a program, a grouping, a product or a purchase, it's information without consequence. Reporting should be designed from the decision backwards.

Measurement is a discipline.

Item quality, scoring, adaptivity and validation are technical work. Where the scope needs deeper psychometric or specialist expertise, we bring it in.

How engagements run

Four steps, no mystery.

01

Brief

Tell us what you need to decide.

02

Scope

We agree the questions, evidence, deliverables, timing and price in writing.

03

Examine

We work through the evidence, bringing in specialist help where the scope needs it.

04

Decide

You get written findings, a prioritised set of actions and a briefing on what matters next.

Get in touch

Tell us what you're dealing with.

Most engagements start with a short conversation or a brief by email. We'll tell you plainly whether it's something we can help with, what the first piece of work would look like and what it would cost.
